# Upload and Analyzing Plots

This page explains the basics of using TradeAware to Upload and Analyze plots.

You will already need an account to do these actions. If you do not have an account, follow our guide [here](/tradeaware/readme/getting-started.md).

If at any time you have challenges or questions when using TradeAware, you can [contact support](/tradeaware/additional-resources/contact-support.md).

## Navigating the Map <a href="#gettingstarted-navigatingthemap" id="gettingstarted-navigatingthemap"></a>

You have multiple options to navigate to an area of interest:

\- Use your mouse to zoom in and out using the scroll.

\- Use the plus and minus tools in the bottom right corner of the map to zoom in and out.

\- Move the view by holding the left click and moving the mouse.

\- Selecting “Find my location” icon <img src="/files/6OvnYlJelMcYyn4Z8fNY" alt="" data-size="line"> will zoom the map to your estimated location.

<figure><img src="/files/9IvltGRaba5CMaoU0uHM" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can search for locations using the search box in the bottom right corner of the page. As you type, suggestions will be made.

<figure><img src="/files/88HaTKCQIr4tC4xtoF8u" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can also search using coordinate pairs. By putting these in the map search separated by a comma, you will see a recommendation to use either order of latitude and longitude.

<figure><img src="/files/rFnMwES4LYlZC3hNgMs1" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Selecting a suggestion will zoom the map to the area.

<figure><img src="/files/vg1tKxadZ81uQ2toF0An" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Adding Plots <a href="#gettingstarted-addingplots" id="gettingstarted-addingplots"></a>

Just like the onboarding flow, you have two options for uploading plots: drawing them individually or performing a bulk upload.

### Drawing Individual Plots <a href="#gettingstarted-drawingindividualplots" id="gettingstarted-drawingindividualplots"></a>

To draw plots, open the "Plots of land page" by clicking the plots icon <img src="/files/loFbMlocDeExHkNd3Azq" alt="" data-size="line">

<figure><img src="/files/0N8w34FxKtp6c4OTvQjW" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Select the plus sign <img src="/files/oLBBHdwzOHPogx3kVfQH" alt="" data-size="line"> at the top of the list and you will see the option to import plots or draw a plot.

<figure><img src="/files/OuquavocDb0fpsomVljt" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Selecting "Draw Plot" will open the drawing tool. You can either draw a polygon or place a point (the top bar action bar provide a toggle to switch point / polygon creation).

Draw polygon is the default selected action.

For creating a polygon, click the corners of the plot you want to mark. To finish drawing, connect the last point drawn to the first point drawn. You will then be prompted to add the plot name and the crop grown there. **Note: the maximum plot size you can upload is 10,000 hectares. If your plot is larger than this, either divide it into smaller areas or** [**contact TradeAware support**](/tradeaware/additional-resources/contact-support.md) **for assistance.**

By double clicking on the plot drawn, you can also tweak the boundaries of the plot you have added by moving the points of it. Finally, you can either click “Save” to save the plot, in which case it will appear in the list of plots or “Cancel” to cancel the operation.

<figure><img src="/files/LIOKzsGfobmK8FMRtjNI" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/yhyKpBKGdnWEQPvnt0Ge" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

To draw a point, select, select "Place point" on the top bar action and just click on the map at the place you want to create it. Fill name and commodities and press the save button.

By double clicking on the point you can edit the position and place it to a new coordinates.

<figure><img src="/files/Zg8Smz1JQSeFcGEecTMN" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Bulk Upload <a href="#gettingstarted-bulkupload" id="gettingstarted-bulkupload"></a>

#### Data Formatting for Bulk Upload

* You can bulk import plots of land that are polygons, multi-polygons or points in GeoJSON format.
* Your file must be under 10mb.
* You can optionally add a name field by including in the feature properties a **"name"** value. If you use this all your plots will be uploaded with these names and and with a number affixed to ensure uniqueness.
* You can optionally add additional custom data or description by including in the feature properties a **"custom data"** and/or **"description"** value. This allows you to add more information about your plots
* For points, you can optionally add an area field by including in the feature properties an "areaHa" value. If you use this, your points will be buffered to this area size.

If you add other properties, including if where you use the above properties but described other than with the types listed above (e.g. you use "names" nor "name"), these properties will be ignored and not saved when you upload your data.

You can find more information on our page [Formatting GeoJSON for TradeAware Application Uploads](/tradeaware/using-the-tradeaware-web-app/plot-upload-and-analysis-trouble-shooting/formatting-geojson-for-tradeaware-application-uploads.md)on how to format your data. You can also find trouble shooting information on our page [Plot Upload and Analysis Trouble Shooting](/tradeaware/using-the-tradeaware-web-app/plot-upload-and-analysis-trouble-shooting.md)

#### Uploading Data

Select the plus sign <img src="/files/oLBBHdwzOHPogx3kVfQH" alt="" data-size="line"> at the top of the plots of land list and click "Import Plots" to open the plot uploader.

<figure><img src="/files/b7axCee4DAaVPMTJltwR" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Select file(s) from your file browser.

<figure><img src="/files/94TcPldHx2KZDEKQLztW" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

After selecting the file(s) you can select the commodity of the plots in files.

<figure><img src="/files/0kQUNHSNkJnAUE16Ighu" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Any plots in the files that are valid will be uploaded, any that are not valid will be rejected and you will see an error in the uploader directing you to the issue (e.g. plot is too large, plot kinks or plot is a duplicate). For more detail on these issues, refer to our guide on uploads [here](/tradeaware/using-the-tradeaware-web-app/plot-upload-and-analysis-trouble-shooting.md).

<figure><img src="/files/QrXmBx6WoqrQSTdX9CUT" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The uploaded plots will show in the list of Plots of Land on the left with an automatic check against the EU Global Forest Cover Map. You can see more details on this [here](#gettingstarted-bulkupload-1).

<figure><img src="/files/Ul7aXiGCatxqccRsE98i" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can see the details of any plot by selecting it in the list on the left or by selecting it in the map.

<figure><img src="/files/shwZg3dztGeiu7J3Skfs" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Managing your plots <a href="#gettingstarted-managingyourplots" id="gettingstarted-managingyourplots"></a>

To see plots of land select the “Plots of Land” Icon <img src="/files/NACmeQynQf5nxMjr8kKn" alt="" data-size="line"> at the top of the left hand bar in the application. This will open the table. If you haven’t added any plots yet, this table will be empty.

### Navigating the Plots of Land Page

If you already have plots, selecting a plot in the list navigates the map to that plot, highlights it in the list and on the map as well as opening the details panel on the right about the plot. You can also directly select plots on the map.

<figure><img src="/files/dAijZA8htwrMg2pLf8N9" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can also see more details about the plots by expanding the table on the left.

<figure><img src="/files/dCKOMZNN2gGCv5rD9WWq" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Searching, Filtering and Sorting Plots <a href="#gettingstarted-editinganddeletingplots" id="gettingstarted-editinganddeletingplots"></a>

In either the collapsed or expanded Plots of land table, you can search for plots by name, supplier or commodity. This will limit the selection to the relevant plots.

<figure><img src="/files/2Zk5hoepdAgnKa8CSGxc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can also filter plots based on a number of different fields by opening the filter view <img src="/files/MAIQrbvQgAFctIAhbG4T" alt="" data-size="line"> From here you can turn filters on and off.

<figure><img src="/files/R4lxstPlr36gxG6O3VeC" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The filter view shows a reminder that a filter is currently applied <img src="/files/jPDfdMS7NW01OVYkmHdx" alt="" data-size="line"> Selected filters also show above the table and can be removed here by clicking the cross next to the filter criteria.

<figure><img src="/files/XF0Pxp9FmnY7Od7XjR1J" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can also sort the plots based on any column by selecting the arrow next to the column header.

### Editing and Deleting Plots <a href="#gettingstarted-editinganddeletingplots" id="gettingstarted-editinganddeletingplots"></a>

By selecting the ellipsis next to the plot name in the right hand panel, you can select to “Edit plot details” or “Delete” Plot. **Note:** You can only do this for plots you have added, not for plots that have been added by your suppliers.

<figure><img src="/files/5HTjo4cyFsuY3QC1kgb9" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If you select “Edit plot details” you can change the name of your plot and the commodity grown on it.

If you double click the plot in edit mode, you can edit the boundaries of the plot by dragging the points of the plot.

<figure><img src="/files/qlyA3iHTDXWCqPBNy5UT" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If you select “Delete”, you will see a prompt asking you to confirm the deletion.

<figure><img src="/files/ldY9hem33T2QvBaCxMgN" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If you confirm the deletion, the plot will no longer appear in the list and the view will zoom back out.

#### Bulk Deleting Plots

You can delete multiple plots at once directly from the plot list view. Simply select the checkboxes next to the plots you wish to delete, and click the “Delete” button at the bottom of the panel. A confirmation prompt will appear—once confirmed, the selected plots will be removed from your account.

<figure><img src="/files/Z9C15liIXTrEtT2977vG" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Note:** As with individual deletions, you can only bulk delete plots that you have added yourself. Plots shared from your supply chain cannot be deleted.

## Analyzing Plots <a href="#gettingstarted-plotriskstatuses" id="gettingstarted-plotriskstatuses"></a>

To see plots of land uploaded, select the Plots of Land Icon <img src="/files/NACmeQynQf5nxMjr8kKn" alt="" data-size="line"> at the top of the left hand bar in the application. This will open the table.

<figure><img src="/files/Ul7aXiGCatxqccRsE98i" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### EU Global Forest Cover Analysis <a href="#gettingstarted-bulkupload" id="gettingstarted-bulkupload"></a>

When you upload plots of land to TradeAware, it automatically checks these for overlap with the [EU Global Forest Cover Map](https://forest-observatory.ec.europa.eu/forest/rmap) which estimates natural forest as of December 2020. This provides three information points:

* **Risk -** High (where there is any overlap with the plot and this map) and low (where there is no overlap with the plot and this map)
* **Disturbance Percentage -** How much the plot and map overlap, if at all. We use the term disturbance rather than deforestation as the EU Global Map of Forest Cover is intended to show natural forest as of December 2020 rather than areas of deforestation following the cut off. An overlap would suggest you should be cautious buying commodities produced on this land as the presence of natural forest in an area of production suggests deforestation may have occurred.
* **Visual Overlap -** A green layer which shows specifically for the plot where the overlap with the EU Global Map of Forest Cover is. This can be toggled on and off by selecting "Show Legend" at bottom left of the map.

However, there may be valid reasons for the presence of natural forest in a plot as of December 2020 especially if it is still standing as of today, which this layer does not show. The accuracy of the EU Global Forest Cover map also varies according to various factors such as geography, commodity grown and the farming practice. Additional information on known issues can be found [here](https://forobs.jrc.ec.europa.eu/GFC#data_download).

**If you do a bulk upload, the time to complete the analysis depends on the size of your upload. If it's not ready right away, feel free to check back later or** [**contact us for assistance**](/tradeaware/additional-resources/contact-support.md)**.**

Where plots of land added to the system overlap with this layer, you will see a risk status of “High” and the percentage of overlap with the layer. The outline of the plot will also be in red and you will see this red color on the Plots of land list on the left. You will also see the option to contact us for our TradeAware Precision Analytics.

<figure><img src="/files/tN5T0NIvhphOuOyUUGrF" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Where plots of land added to the system do not overlap with this layer, you will see a risk status of “Low”. The outline of the plot will also be in blue and you will see this blue color on the Plots of land list on the left. You will also see the option to contact us for our TradeAware Precision Analytics.

<figure><img src="/files/ZAtapVBD0qsLk5jK6oFt" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### TradeAware Precision Analytics

As the EU Global Forest Cover Map does not perfectly capture the requirement of EUDR to check for conversion from natural forest to agriculture, we have created TradeAware Precision Analytics. This has been built to be completely definitionally aligned with EUDR so that rather than looking at natural forest or tree cover loss alone, it looks at changes in the land usage. This enables it to ignore tree cover loss events that are not relevant, primarily agricultural management.

**To use TradeAware Precision Analytics, you will need an account with this enabled. If you do not have this enabled, contact your Customer Success Manager.**

Where this option is enabled, after you upload a plot, you still see the option against TradeAware Precision Analytics to "Start Analysis".

<figure><img src="/files/STV54sDaMTQlYANPtrF4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

After you press "Start Analysis", the status will change to Processing. Our Precision Analytics Pipeline runs once daily at midday CET, so at this point you can exit the application and come back when the processing is complete.

<figure><img src="/files/tz1lZMJu9mv2fYBxHWCz" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once this is complete, you see three information points:

* **Risk -** Both at the level of the TradeAware Precision Analytics and based on both types of analysis. Where there is no overlap with the TradeAware Precision Analytics and the plot, risk both for TradeAware Precision Analytics and at the level of the plot will show as low. At the plot level, this is the case even where the EU Global Forest Cover shows overlap, as the TradeAware Precision Analytics is more closely aligned to the EUDR deforestation definition and has higher accuracy.

| TradeAware Precision Analytics Risk | EU Global Forest Cover Risk | Overall Plot Risk |
| ----------------------------------- | --------------------------- | ----------------- |
| High | High | High |
| High | Low | High |
| Low | Low | Low |
| Low | High | Low |

* **Deforestation Percentage -** How much the plot and the TradeAware Precision Analytics overlap, if at all. An overlap would suggest you should be cautious buying commodities produced on this land due to the presence of detected deforestation.
* **Visual Overlap -** A red layer which shows specifically for the plot where the overlap with TradeAware Precision Analytics is. This can be toggled on and off by selecting "Show Legend" at bottom left of the map.

For our previous example, we see the EU Global Forest Cover Map shows overlap with the plot (green layer) but the TradeAware Precision Analytics does not. In this specific case, the EU Global Forest Cover map incorrectly identified palm plantation that predated the December 2020 cut off as natural forest. The TradeAware Precision Analytics was able to distinguish this.

<figure><img src="/files/Greu6UTetZcJLwNqA6Tk" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The example below shows both where the EU Global Forest Cover Map (green layer) and where TradeAware Precision Analytics (red layer) show overlap with the plot. In this specific example, the deforestation on the plot has not been detected by the EU Global Forest Cover Map but has been detected by TradeAware Precision Analytics.

<figure><img src="/files/qFkEwDms3BMJZlanix6V" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### **Requesting Precision Analytics for Multiple Plots**

You can now request TradeAware Precision Analytics for **multiple plots at once** directly from the Plots of Land table.

1. Navigate to the **Plots of Land** page using the plots icon in the left-hand menu.
2. Use the checkboxes to select the plots you want to include in the analysis.\
\&#xNAN;*You can select up to 1000 plots in a single request.*
3. Click **Request Precision Analytics** in the footer bar.

   <figure><img src="/files/8weY0XHKGXlH0D16bD3I" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
4. A confirmation message will appear, and the status of the selected plots will change to **Processing**.

   <figure><img src="/files/BBiVGmsqTVz7uJ5r0l9n" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Our Precision Analytics pipeline runs once daily at midday CET. You can safely navigate away—when you return, the plots’ statuses will automatically update to show whether the analysis completed successfully.

> **Note:** If one or more plots cannot be queued for analysis, TradeAware will display an inline error message explaining why (for example, invalid plot geometry or insufficient permissions). You can fix these issues and try again.

### Toggling the Analyses types <a href="#gettingstarted-managingyourplots" id="gettingstarted-managingyourplots"></a>

In the right panel of the map, you will can toggle the layers of the different types of analyses.

<figure><img src="/files/IaQdgZ8BcPiui0YHNUPO" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Hovering over a specific layer in the right panel shows information about the layer.

<figure><img src="/files/HIB7Uy9tvDDJYBywONQb" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can also use this to turn layers on and off by using the selector next to the layer name.

<figure><img src="/files/aFvucCIqBW6bFIH2ENCo" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
